First private pokerroom in The Netherlands
By: Harper Whitefield
The Dutch will get their first private pokerroom on july 31st. In a town Glane close to the border with Germany a private pokerroom will be opened up at the 31st of july.
With very littly information publicly known all there is to tell is that at the start there will be 6 No Limit Texas Holdem tables, this can later be expanded to 11 tables. The pokerroom will be open for players from 12:00 till 02:00 every day. The rake will be 5% with a cap at €15.
The opening of this private pokerroom will raise lots of discussion in The Netherlands where the State Casinos under Holland Casino have a monopoly. This pokerroom probably feels supported by the ruling of a judge in The Heague earlier this month where was stated that poker is a game of skill and not of chance. The judge based his decision on a research from the professors Ben van der Genugten en Peter Borm that indicated that poker could be compared to chess and bridge and was a game of skill.
Even though this ruling is very strongly in favor of online poker the Public Prosecutor (and the minister of justice) allready responded they will appeal this ruling.
